I recommend the book Life as we knew it by Susan Beth Pfeffer. It's about a girl named Miranda Evans. She's a sophmore in high school, has two brothers, Matt and Jonny, her parents are divorced, her dad and his wife, Lisa, are expecting a baby. Then a historical event happens and changes life as Miranda knew it. An astroid hits the moon knocks it out of orbit, and makes it closer to Earth. The moon not being in its rightful place alters the climate and ocean tide and practically eats the east and west coasts. Millions of people die and thousands of others flee down south where it's said to be better the Howell, Pennsylvania. Throughout the book Miranda has to sacrifice her friends, the love of her life, and is afraid she'll never see her dad, Lisa, and the baby ever again.
